The Rags to Riches Series

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Sometimes you can find love in the most unexpected places.

Sparks fly as three couples who seem all wrong for each other tackle the obstacles thrown in their way in search of true love. Opposites attract, yet those opposites might actually have far more in common than they think. Can social divisions and personal barriers be overcome in order to find a happily ever after together?

Business and Pleasure:
When sexy, rich Lawrence Russo asks Mia to come and work for him in Italy for two weeks, she jumps at the chance. After all, it beats pole dancing, and the salary he offers her is practically obscene. A relationship quickly begins to develop between the two, but Mia can't help but wonder if Lawrence's feelings for her are genuine or if he feels he's just paying for a service.

The Best of Both Worlds:
Melissa Morgan seems to have it all—her modeling career is taking off and she's engaged to one of the most eligible bachelors in London. But when she finds Jonathan cheating on her again, she finds solace in the arms of Riley, a sexy bar owner trying to recover from the heartbreak of his last relationship. Melissa shouldn't even want Riley, but she can't seem to stay away, especially when she finds in him everything that's missing in her relationship with Jonathan.

The Right Kind of Wrong:
Harriet Jones has spent years trying to win her father's affection, but time and time again she's been left feeling that she just isn't good enough. When she starts to fall for her rough-around-the-edges neighbor she knows her father would never approve. All he will see is man who was just released from jail, not a man who's determined to turn his life around.

Content Warning: contains explicit sex and strong language

~Excerpt~

Business and Pleasure Excerpt:

"I've been watching you, Mia."

"I've noticed." She took a step in his direction and looked challengingly into his dark eyes. "So, do you like what you see?"

They were close enough to touch, and Mia's every nerve was tingling, hoping to feel his fingers on her skin. He swayed forward and, for a moment, she thought he was going to kiss her, but he leaned toward her ear instead. "I have a business proposition for you," he breathed, sending a shiver through her body before he pulled away from her.

It took Mia a moment to compose herself, and his eyes sparkled with amusement. No doubt he was enjoying her confusion. "Business…a business proposition?" Mia attempted to sound as casual as she possibly could.

"I'm returning to my home in Tuscany tomorrow," he announced.

Mia felt her heart sink but was determined not to let it show. "Oh, it must be beautiful in Italy this time of year. But what does that have to do with me?"

"I was hoping you would accompany me."

The Best of Both Worlds Excerpt:

"Can I come in? Or are we going to do this on the doorstep?" Melissa laughed nervously.

Do what? Riley wondered, but he stepped aside to let her in without question. He couldn't help but glance down at her behind as she walked past him. It was mighty fine, but he felt so guilty for checking her out. She was engaged for God's sake! To one of the richest bachelors in London, no less. She wasn't for him. He took a deep breath and followed her into the bar.

"I wanted to thank you for last night," Melissa said as she turned to him. He could smell her sweet perfume. It was like heaven.

"Oh, okay." That sounded like something she could easily have done on the doorstep.

"I, um…also wanted to apologize for…you know." Melissa was blushing. It was an endearing sight. Riley remembered her trying to kiss him and his reaction.

"It's all right. I won't be telling anybody about it, if that's what you're worried about." Riley understood now, she was there covering her tracks, worried that the story about the hot, young model coming on to the barman would get out. Like he was thinking earlier, these girls were too full of their own self-importance.

"I wasn't worried about anything." Melissa folded her arms and scowled at him. "I wanted to apologize to you. I thought I might have offended you."

"I wasn't offended. I just don't have any time for a drunk, rich girl who's after a naughty little fling to entertain herself." Riley knew he needed to get rid of her, he couldn't think straight when she was around. Despite what he was telling her, a naughty little fling with her sounded pretty good to him right now.

"What if I want more than a naughty little fling?"

The Right Kind of Wrong Excerpt:

"Can I kiss you again?" Jamie asked. There was a fleeting moment of indecision in his eyes, like maybe he shouldn't, but all Harriet wanted was for him to kiss her again.

"Yes." Her voice was trembling. There were so many reasons why she should have said no. But she wanted this. She wanted Jamie.

His eyes fixed on hers until his soft lips found hers. Harriet savored his gentle kiss this time, marveling at his skill to ignite a passion within her that she wasn't even sure she had. When he pulled away, Harriet was left breathless.

"You seem nervous," he said, taking her hand, which was physically shaking.

"I…I haven't touched a man since my husband and I separated," Harriet admitted.

Jamie's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "You seem too young to have been married already."

"Yes, well, it didn't work out," Harriet said bitterly. She looked away, trying to push down the emotions that threatened to resurface—rejection, abandonment, the feeling of never being good enough. But she was good at controlling the pain by now; she'd been doing it ever since she was a child.

"I'm sorry." The fire between them was in danger of fizzling out as they stood there awkwardly, but then Jamie kissed her hand. "Anybody would be a fool to leave you."

Jamie pulled her closer and started kissing her again. He tasted of beer, and Harriet hated the taste usually, but like with everything else, he made the wrong seem so right, and she loved it.

She kissed him like she couldn't get enough. Boldly, Harriet raised her hands up to cup his face, the beginnings of stubble feeling grainy against her palms. She was more turned on than she could ever remember. Harriet pulled away, suddenly nervous. It wasn't like her to do things like this, and it scared her just how much she wanted it.

"It's okay, we don't have to take this any further. We don't really know each other," Jamie said a little breathlessly.

Harriet tried to hide her disappointment, but she knew he was right, and she wasn't the kind of girl to be this forward.

"But I'm up for it if you are." Jamie's voice was more serious, and his words sent waves of desire through her body.

Given her tendency to overthink things into inaction, she decided to let her body take over. There were a hundred reasons why she shouldn't do this, but she was going to go with the one reason she should—she wanted to.

Let It Burn... Emily Wood

Hello everybody! Thank you for stopping by to read about my new release Let It Burn

Blurb

Sometimes one person can make you question everything you thought you wanted.

Lydia James is a struggling scriptwriter with big dreams. She's determined to conquer the movie world, and equally determined to stay out of the limelight while she does it. So what happens when she meets Ryan Sharpe, a British actor and Hollywood's next big thing? He could hold the keys to her future, but with him, flying under the radar doesn't seem to be an option.

Ryan has learned his lesson when it comes to women. In his experience, relationships mean heartache and pain. But when he meets Lydia, everything changes. She's a breath of fresh air, and everything he didn't even know he was looking for. There's just one problem—she doesn't want to be a part of his life. Will a weekend in Saint-Tropez give Ryan the opportunity he needs to win Lydia's heart, or will their desires turn to ashes?

Content Warning: explicit sex

Excerpt

"So what is it about the party that you're so desperate to avoid, Lydia James?"

She sucked a breath in and blew it out slowly. She didn't miss Ryan's eyes flickering to her breasts as her chest heaved. They lingered there for a moment.

"Honestly, I'm totally out of my depth." She paused, wondering how much he would actually want to know and how much would just be a rant. She decided to go for it anyway. "I'm a writer. Or at least, I want to be. I have a story…a script. I also have an agent who brought me here to make connections. That's what he said anyway, but…he's been hinting that he expects to get something out of this, if you get what I mean."

"Ah."

"Yeah. Obviously, I would never do that. But how the hell do I get out of this? Do you have any idea how hard it is to get an agent?" She remembered who she was talking to. "Of course you do." And then she looked at him again—he probably had exclusive rights to Hollywood based on his jaw-dropping good looks. Even mere mortals like directors and producers bowed down to gods. "So my problem is how do I get out of this without him blackening my name forever?"

Ryan's face had been a picture of amusement since the moment he'd turned on the light. But suddenly something far more dangerous danced in his eyes, although he was obviously struggling to hide it. A thrill shocked her whole body before finally settling in her lower abdomen.

"The damage has been done," Ryan said. His voice was slow and tight. "You can kiss your agent goodbye. Not literally though. I'm afraid the industry is rife with people like that, and if he doesn't take you seriously now, then no offense, but no amount of sexual favors are going to change his mind."

The blush that had colored her cheeks earlier was nothing compared to the heat that filled them under Ryan's angry gaze. Her skin was suddenly so hot that it made her eyes water. She felt dirty and ashamed, and she hadn't even done anything. Jesus, she wouldn't have even dreamed of doing anything with that man out there.

"I already knew that," she snapped. "I came in here to get away. But how do I… Whatever I do now I'll offend him."

The anger in Ryan's face melted away enough for mischief to creep in. He stood up, walking over to her in a slow, deliberate way that had her heartbeat doing the exact opposite. She pressed her back against the door as he approached. He was even more captivating up close. A tiny corner of her consciousness worried about what he intended to do while the rest of her screamed approval at all of the naughty things racing through her mind.

But of course, she wasn't in a fairy tale, and heartbreakingly handsome actors didn't kiss lowly dreamers like herself. He stopped short, his perfectly sculpted lips moving to breathe in her ear rather than meet her own. Lydia let her eyes flicker closed, his intoxicating, spicy scent threatening to turn her into a puddle at his feet.

"If the only man who could make your career is about to drop you, then there's only really one thing to do."

"What's that?" Lydia managed to croak, painfully aware of how close she was to touching heaven.

"Make sure everybody else knows your name."

Excerpt:

"I guess that's a hint for me to go." Jamie sighed. "Shame, I was enjoying myself."

He hopped off the stool, and despite the rising panic about her work, Harriet felt a warm glow at his words. "Really?"

"Geez, don't sound so surprised. Why wouldn't I be enjoying myself in the company of a beautiful woman?" Jamie stared down at her with that burning, intense gaze of his.

Harriet squirmed. Years of being criticized had made her unable to take a compliment. "I'm not beautiful."

She broke her gaze away from his, and looked back at her work. Work was what she knew, what she understood, not compliments and looks of strange, gorgeous men whom she had invited into her home with no real idea why.

She felt his fingers under her chin, lifting her face so that she had to look back up at him. Even though she resisted slightly, his fingers were firm.

"You are the most beautiful woman I've ever met," Jamie told her, and he looked so serious.

Harriet wanted to believe it. But she knew she wasn't beautiful.

"Can I kiss you again?" There was a fleeting moment of indecision in his eyes, like maybe he shouldn't, but all Harriet wanted was for him to kiss her again.

Excerpt:
Lucy looked around nervously. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"I…don't know," Mia admitted. Perhaps she was just being paranoid.
"Mia." She heard a familiar drawl coming from the shadows. Her heart raced in anticipation as she turned to see the speaker. He walked out of the shadows and toward them like a jaguar stalking his prey, but Mia didn't feel intimidated, only excited by his presence.
"You shouldn't go sneaking around in the darkness. You could give a girl a fright." Mia laughed.
"I could leave, if that would please you," he purred. She loved the way he emphasized please. He gave no indication that he was going to leave. Mia was glad.
"Er, maybe I'll just go wait around the corner," Lucy said awkwardly. Mia nodded to acknowledge her, feeling a little guilty, because she had actually forgotten Lucy was still there.
"So, what are you doing here?" Mia tried to seem nonchalant, despite the fact that her body was having some kind of chemical reaction to his presence.
As if from nowhere, the handsome man produced the bottle of champagne he had purchased earlier that night. "I do believe we have plans to share this." He took a step closer to her.
"Oh. I would, it's just we aren't supposed to socialize with the clients outside of the club," Mia said teasingly, although it was technically true.
"Tell me, Mia, do you always do what you're supposed to do?" It seemed as though he had expected her reaction.
"No, I guess not."
"I've been watching you, Mia."

Tease Us Thursday... #teaseusthursday

We're a day late because I overbooked the blog. But here we are.

Let's add to your TBR pile...

Emily Wood

“It can’t happen again,” Melissa whispered. Her gaze dropped to the floor. This was harder than she expected. All she really wanted to do was throw herself at him. She wanted him so badly.
“Okay, so then you should leave. I appreciate your apology.” Riley was trying to act as though he didn’t care, but she was sure he sounded disappointed.
“I guess that’s it then.” Melissa bit her lip. What did she want him to do exactly? She smiled sadly to herself. She knew the answer to that; she wanted him to tell her that he wanted her as much as she did him, but that wasn’t going to happen.
Melissa turned around. She needed to leave before he saw the distress in her face.
“Why did you come here?” Riley questioned, almost desperately.
Melissa turned to face him, tears pricking her eyes. She needed to get a grip! They’d had sex, one time. It shouldn’t be this hard to walk away. “I just told you…”
Riley strode to her and twisted his fingers into her hair, turning her face up toward his and kissing her hungrily. It was the kind of kiss that took her breath away, and Melissa had to respond, but when he pulled away she could see the emotional anguish she was causing him.
“I mean why did you come here at all? Why come into my life and then tell me I can’t have you?” Riley asked sincerely. Oh, what had she done?

“Take more. I’m all yours.”
“I know that’s true.” He turned her around and pinned her against the dresser. “You’re so willing to please me. I hope you know I’ll do the same for you.”
His hands made a slow descent to her center. As he kissed her spine, he inserted his finger inside her heat, running it along her lower lips and clit. “I love how much you want me.”
“Only you.” She locked eyes with him in the mirror. “You’re a very determined man. It’s overwhelming to belong to you.”
“Do you want to belong to me?” He gripped her hips and pulled her against his erection. “Because after tonight I’ll never be able to let you go.”
“You won’t have to.”
He thrust again, leaning her over so that he moved against her wet pussy.
“Oh…”
“Do you like that?” He squeezed her hips harder. “Do you have any idea how deep I can get this way?”
His words, hot against her neck made her shiver. “I’ve never done it that way before.” The thought of him tugging at her hair as he pounded into her made her body ache with need. She imagined him groaning her name and swearing as he claimed her.
“From behind,” he whispered into her ear. “Is that something you don’t like?”
She shook her head and averted her eyes from his in the reflection. “I don’t know.”
“Don’t be shy with me now.” He turned her to face him. “What’s bothering you?”
“Nothing. I mean… I’m not very experienced.” She hated having to admit her lack of sexual experience to him, but she didn’t want him to be disappointed with her.
“You’re not a—” She saw the shock in his eyes, so she put him out of his misery.
“I’ve done it, but only a few times. Mostly when I was younger, but the past few years I’ve been focusing on my education and my sex life sort of took a back seat. It’s been a while.” She was certain she sounded like a complete idiot. They were in the heat of the moment and she had to tell him she was a sexual recluse.
“I see.”
“Are you mad?” Maybe she should have discussed her history with him before he took her clothes off.
“Mad? I’m so turned on by your innocence that it’s taking every bit of control I have not to…” He ran his hand through his hair. “Let’s take things slow.” He kissed her as he guided her over to the bed. “Tonight is about you. I will always take care of you.”
She fisted the lapels of his jacket in her hands and pulled him close to her. “I think you’re overdressed.”
“It turns me on that you’re naked and I’m not.”

Savannah was so overcome by her need for him she pushed him against the wall right outside his room. Lance spun them as he pulled her shirt over her head and let it fall to the floor. He undid the front clasp of her bra, slid it down her arms, and tossed it to the side. He leaned in and kissed her deeply. Van kissed him back with all the love and lust she had in her, causing them both to moan.

“I need to feel you,” she whispered against his lips, unfastening his shorts and pushing them down along with his boxers. Lance kicked them off as he played with her nipples.

“God, I want to fuck you right here and now.” He groaned. He pulled up her miniskirt, pushed her panties to the side, and slid a finger through her folds into her core. “You’re always so damn wet and ready for me.”

“And you’re so hard,” she purred as she stroked his cock.

Lance picked her up, and they were in his room in no time. He placed her down next to the bed. He took off his shirt and lay on the mattress. “Take the rest of your clothes off and sit on my face.”
Savannah blushed as she pushed her panties down along with her skirt. She then straddled him backward, holding herself just inches above his face, and placed her feet against the headboard. This position allowed her to pleasure him also.

“And you say I’m the naughty one.”

They kept the conversation light through dessert, but as the wine continued to flow, electricity began to build when their knees grazed under the table or their hands accidently touched. This definitely felt much more like a first date than Mia’s first day of employment.
“Do you want me to wash the dishes?” Mia asked as they sat in a loaded silence.
“No, that’s why I have a housekeeper. Nicola will do it in the morning.” Lawrence’s eyes were intense as they stared at her and Mia shivered in excitement.
“Then I think I’ll go freshen up.” Mia got up from the table and left the room. As she walked up the stairs to her bedroom, she glanced around to see if he’d gotten the message. He obviously had, he was at the doorway watching her.
So what now? Mia wondered as she finished up in her en-suite. She slicked on some extra lip gloss and pouted at herself in the mirror. Hesitating for a second, she slipped off her panties and bra so that she was just wearing her light dress and heels. There was no denying what was building between them.
As Mia left her room, she heard a soft whisper beckoning her from down the hall. “Mia.” She turned to see Lawrence leaning his back against a doorframe, looking uncharacteristically boyish. His face was playful. “I don’t believe I showed you my room when I gave you the tour earlier.”

"Are you leaving?” Her voice was soft and he thought he caught a glimpse of frustration in her eyes but she’d turned away just as quick, leaving him guessing at how she would react if he did take off. Would she want to see him again if he did? Would she want to see him again either way?

Determined not to be like his past self and more like the person he wanted to be for her, he said, “I was hoping to grab a late lunch…with you…if you want to go.”

Gannon’s heart skipped when she didn’t answer immediately. He watched as she sat on the couch and pulled her knees to her chest, her dark hair falling across her shoulders. Her pouty, red lips were parted slightly, and her blue eyes were fixed on his. He caught himself not breathing at how damn beautiful she was, and in that moment he knew that the feelings he’d carried for her since high school had increased tenfold.

Her gaze followed him as he walked across the room and went to his knees in front of her. He took her ankles and pulled her from the couch, wrapping her legs around his waist, loving her playful squeal.

He leaned in to kiss her, but she moved her head back and gave him a thoughtful look. “Don’t feel like you have to take me out because of what just happened. I’m a big girl. I can deal.”

Josh held an envelope in his hand. He couldn’t possible have the DNA test results already. Then again, he had money, so anything was possible. “I’m here to see you. Can I come in?”
Abigail stepped back out of the way and let him enter.
“It smells good.” He glanced around.
“I was cleaning. I was just about to wash up before you showed up unexpected.”
He grinned. “I thought we could open this together.”
She eyed the white rectangle in his hand. “That’s for you. Not me. I know you’re the father. You were the last man I was with.”
“Before you found out you were pregnant?”
She laughed. “No, as in you’re the last man I’ve ever had sex with.”
“You don’t mean…”
“Oh, yeah, I mean it. I’m a single mother. I don’t have time to date.” He was quiet and she found it amusing. She could only imagine the thoughts running through his head. “Open it up.”
He set the envelope on the table next to him and closed the space between them. “It was five years ago that you and I were intimate. And in all this time, you’ve never gone to bed with another man?”
“You’re still on that?” Men.
His hand wrapped around her neck and he pulled her face to his. “Do you have any idea what it does to me to know I was the last one to touch you?”
She shook her head. “What does it mean to you?”
“How about I show you? Can I?”
She gazed at his lips and licked hers. Before she knew what was happening, she nodded and his mouth crushed against hers. He stole her breath when his tongue swooped in and met hers. She reached out and grabbed his shoulders, bringing her body closer to his.
Her body burst with pleasure, the same way she felt years ago. His arms wrapped around her and lifted her. Her legs intertwined with his waist. Josh spun her around, setting her on the same table the envelope was on.
He ended the kiss, but only to begin a trail on her cheek, to her chin, neck, and collarbone. “Oh God,” she murmured.
She arched into him as his tongue licked the top of her cleavage. Her core ached to be touched. She wanted this man badly. Instinct kicked in and she reached out, yanked a handful of his dress shirt, and smashed her lips to his. Her fingers began working his buttons. Once a few were undone, she slipped her hand inside his shirt and across his firm chest.
“You’re amazing,” he whispered before his thumb flicked over her nipple.

Spotlight... Emily Wood

Can mixing business and pleasure ever result in a happy ending?
When sexy, rich Lawrence Russo asks Mia to come and work for him in Italy for two weeks, she jumps at the chance. After all, it beats pole dancing, and the salary he offers her is practically obscene.
A relationship quickly begins to develop between the two, but Mia can't help but wonder if Lawrence's feelings for her are genuine or if he feels he's just paying for a service.
Even if their relationship is strong enough to survive her insecurities, what will happen when somebody from her past shows up and threatens to reveal her deepest, darkest secret?

It took Mia a moment to compose herself, and his eyes sparkled with amusement, no doubt he was enjoying her confusion. "Business…a business proposition?" Mia attempted to sound as casual as she possibly could.

"I'm returning to my home in Tuscany tomorrow," he announced.

Mia felt her heart sink, but was determined not to let it show. "Oh, it must be beautiful in Italy this time of year. But what does that have to do with me?"

"I was hoping you would accompany me."

About the Author:
I have always believed that the best stories are the ones that you can't put down, the ones that transport you to a different place and make you believe in the characters. This is exactly why I write… I have always loved the escapism that reading and writing provides, and there is nothing more exciting than imagining your own set of characters, and then letting them practically write the story for you. Writing has always been a dream of mine, and I'm lucky to have the kind of people around me that have always nurtured and encouraged my passion.

I live a cozy little life in Wales, and when I'm not writing I'm taking care of my young family, studying for a degree in Classical Studies, and training to become a nail technician. I love traveling to new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things…it's all great inspiration for my books!
