Jocelyn's Choice... A New Adult Romance

Once upon a time (about three years ago) I wrote my very first book. I subbed it out to a now defunct publisher who had a call out for a new YA line that wanted authors to push the envelope. The target audience was 18-25. The sex could be as explicit as the story called for and the issues were supposed to be real and written in a way the readers could identify with.

I subbed my first manuscript to this publisher and they contracted my coming of age story about young love and teen pregnancy. The book took off and people identified with it. Even after the publisher began to have some very public issues with their authors, and I stopped promoting the title (due to royalty complications), the book continued to do well. As I mentioned, the publisher went out of business and the rights were reverted back to me.

I'm pleased to announced that with some reediting and tweaking, Jocelyn's Choice is back up on Amazon. The cover has been reworked and the YA tag has been removed. I never really felt it was a true YA book because of the mature content the story contains. In my opinion it's more of a New Adult novel.

Jocelyn's Choice is a story of firsts. It tells the tale of a shy, young woman who falls for a sexy, popular college guy. Remember your first kiss? First date? First time? Jocelyn's Choice takes the reader back. I tried to capture all of those new and exciting feeling through Jocelyn's eyes. The book is told in 1st person so you can really get inside her head.

Jocelyn Andrews, a shy, awkward, high school senior, has never even been on a date until she meets Alex Jordon, the older, more experienced brother of her best friend Evan. Jocelyn falls hard for the charming player and wants to explore all of the “firsts” that go along with young love. Alex has no problem showing her what she’s been missing.

Alex is captivated by young, innocent Jocelyn and to his own surprise, only has eyes for her. One night of careless passion leads to a life-altering dilemma. Alex must head back to Yale to finish an internship, having no idea what he’s left behind. Jocelyn must decide what to do on her own, forcing her to grow up much faster than she anticipated.

Reality sets in, decisions are made and Jocelyn has to live with her choices. Alex returns home to more than he ever bargained for. Young love has never been more complicated as they deal with a teen pregnancy, social barriers, and concerned family members. Life sometimes throws a curve ball, but the unexpected isn’t always bad.
