Do you hear the people sing?

It won't be long before we get to hear Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway belt out the timeless music of Les Miserables.

In 1989, I was a sophomore in high school and my love affair with Les Miz began. The show had come to Philadelphia, where I lived at the time, and my Engish teacher brought in the soundtrack to let us listen to some of the music. He had seen the production the evening before and absolutely raved about it. I remember hearing I Dreamed a Dream and Own My Own. I ran home from school that day and asked my mom if I could have tickets to the show as a Christmas present. To this day, seeing that show for the first time is one of my most favorite memories in my life.

In the past twenty-three years, I've seen the show twenty times. My husband has joined me three times and my son Jake has gone once. This Christmas I'll be able to experience the production on the big screen. Now as an avid Broadway fan it will take a lot to rival live theatre for me, but I have to say, I'm looking forward to seeing the show on the big screen.

Over the years, the CD has been a fixture in my car. Both my boys know every lyric to every song. I've even heard them singing the songs when they think no one is listening. I take my kids to see stage shows as often as I can. My husband and I do an annual trip to NYC every spring to see a show. I have loved many (Wicked, Jersey Boys, West Side Story) but none has stolen my heart the way Les Miz has.

I can't wait to see this movie!

  1. Hi Ella,
I am so looking forward to seeing this. What an incredible cast! My husband surprised me with tickets to see the Broadway show during it's first season. He know I loved the book and the musical blew me away. Wow, 20 times! That is amazing and a testament of a true fan. I hope you love the movie. When I saw the preview and heard the music, goosebumps broke out all over me and I have a feeling the movie will be great!

    1. Hi Laurie,

I know what you mean about the goosebumps. The same thing happened to me when I saw the trailer. I may have to sneak off on Christmas night after all the craziness is over so I can see this on opening day. lol
