Meet The Author... Krista Ames

Today I'm thrilled to have fellow Ruby Lioness Press author Krista Ames with me today...

What motivates Krista Ames the author? Truthfully, I get motivated when I read other peoples books.  Gets me in the mood.  I also have a few different songs and some romantic movies I like to watch that always helps.
Why do you write?   I write because I love to tell stories J
When did you know you were a writer? Was it always your destiny or did you stumble upon your craft by accident?  It may very well have been my destiny to write, I just didn’t always know it.  I feel like I kind of stumbled upon it.  I got heavy into reading, like 2 or 3 paperbacks a day heavy and one day I just thought to myself, hey, I can do this too.  So I just started brainstorming and here we are.
What is your favorite genre to write and why?  Well right now I write m/f contemporary romance.  I just love all that gushy romancy stuff lol.
Is there a particular genre you haven't tried but what like to? What is it and why?  Oh yes!!  I would love love love to write paranormal/shape shifter stories because I love to read them.  I also want to try some western historical but I haven’t attempted it yet.
How did you get into eBook publishing?  I used to read a lot of Harlequins and the Blaze line is my favorite and once I started to write, I actually turned in a story to them, fully accepting the rejection I got.  Then I just started looking into other publishers and found one.  I got contracted but then they went out of business before my story could go anywhere but in the process I had met a great writer who had started a publishing so I submitted to her and 4 short stories later the rest is history.
How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?   I don’t have a set amount of hours; I just try to do as much as I can on a given day.  No routine either, I just write when the thoughts are in my head.  I have 4 kids so even the best laid plans go astray.
Is there a certain aspect of the story you begin with? Do you create the characters first or do you come up with the plot?  Well, sometimes the title or a character name is the first place I start  I’ll run across a name that I think would be a great title for a story and my brain just starts churning from there on the story to go along with it.  I think that’s kind of an unconventional way to start but that’s how it seems to happen.
Who is your favorite author? And, if given the opportunity to meet them, what would you ask them?  I think one of my all-time favorite authors is Linda Lael Miller and wow, if I actually had the chance to meet her, I’d probably be speechless.
What did you do when you found out your first book had been contracted?   I’m pretty sure I screamed lol.  Then when I got home from work, my husband and kids had made a little sign telling me how proud they were and they bought me White Castles(my favorite).  We lived in Florida at the time so It was store bought but they were still pretty darn good.
Has there been a person or influence in your life that has helped you reach your writing goals?  My husband, kids and parents have given me an unbelievable amount of support and that extra push I sometimes need to keep going when I get in a lull.
Do you have any words of inspiration to aspiring authors? What advice would you offer a writer trying to publish?   I guess the only thing I can say is to never give up.  It’s a tough business and there are a lot of writers out there but if you keep trying and definitely accept whatever critique and criticism you get on your work as positive you’ll succeed when the time is right.

Tell us about your current release.
My current release is called Second Chances put out by Ruby Lioness Press.  It’s a novella about a Navy man looking to get a second chance with the love of his life.

Blurb:
If you could get a Second Chance...
When the love of Dana's life leaves without a word, she is forced to move on with her life.  Despite loving him, she believes she will never see him again but, little does she know, she's being set up for a night that will change her life forever.
Nicholas, A Navy man, did the only thing he could to save the woman he loved.  Driven by a secret, he disappeared and now returns, years later, with hope for love.  With one opportunity, will he be able to make things right, or is it just too late?  Will she deny any desire for Second Chances?

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works?
I do actually.  I won a writing contest through Decadent Publishing’s Western Escape Line.  It’s titled Take Me Home Cowboy and unfortunately, I don’t have a release date as of yet but I’ll post on my web page when I get updates.
Where can readers connect with you?
Oh let’s see…I have a few different avenues.

Author bio::

Born and raised in Northern Indiana, Krista now resides in Northern Lower Michigan.  (apparently she wasn't getting enough snow in Indiana:))  She is married to a very supportive man, Chip, who allows her to follow her true passion of writing and never complains when she is pirated away on her computer for hours.  He even helps with proof-reading and is her “in-house” editor and her idea sounding board.  She is also a mother of 4 ornery children ranging from 6 to 13, who keep her plenty busy.  With an addition of 2 beautiful chocolate lab sisters and 2 playful cats, there is never a dull or spare moment in her household.

Krista has always loved to read and would often sit up for hours into the night not able to put down a book until she was finished.  She still reads when she can but her main focus is creating her own stories to share with the world.

She loves to communicate with her readers so please feel free to drop her a line anytime at krista@kristaames.com.
