Meet The Author Monday - Saewood Tice

Today I'm thrilled to introduce my very first Meet the Author guest Saewood Tice. Her new novel is set to release at the end of August, but she gives us an inside look into the book. Here's what she had to say...

What motivates Saewod Tice the author? Why do you write?
Motivation comes in so many forms. When I sit down to write it’s usually music that keep my mojo flowing.  However, there have been multiple sources of inspiration for the true beginning of my writing. One example would be my young adult novel, The Chronicles of 2020: Amongst the Ruins.  It was inspired by a marathon on the History Channel – Life After Humans.  Strange place for inspiration?  Probably for some.  For me, it sparked a million questions:  What happened to humanity? What if some were still there, but in hiding? How would social structures change in such circumstances? From there the characters and setting were born.
Wow, um, I don’t think I have a choice but to write. It’s almost like my mind is wired to constantly imagine how I would make a situation different/better. And if I don’t get it out of my head and on to paper then my head would explode. LOL
When did you know you were a writer? Was it always your destiny or did you stumble upon your craft by accident?
I still don’t know if I consider myself a writer. I’m just a storyteller lucky enough to have readers who’ve been positively interested in my musings.
To me, my writing was really nothing more than a hobby just for my eyes only.  It was garnering some attention through fanfiction writing, where I developed some loyal readers, and the support and push of my husband who made me believe I could do it on my own. So, I moved my writing to my own characters, settings, and plots.  I’m still in awe, and blessed, that people actually enjoy my writing.
Q-How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?
A- I’m a write by the seat of pants kind a gal.  While I try to give myself at least an hour each evening to sit down with a completed novel for editing or working on an in progress novel, if the mojo isn’t flowing then I step away.  You can’t force the feeling needed to produce genuine work.
Who is your favorite author? And, if given the opportunity to meet them, what would you ask them?
I don’t think I can answer this.  LOL  There are so many authors I love for so many reasons.  If I could meet an author, I think getting to meet the late Richard Laymon would be amazing. The level of taboo and gory horror he wrote was so freakishly fantastic.  I’d love to get a glimpse into his mind.
Do you have any words of inspiration to aspiring authors? What advice would you offer a writer trying to publish?
If writing is your passion and something you enjoy, then never give up.  You will come across a great deal of negative feedback and even rejection.  Thicken your skin and accept the good with the bad.  The worst someone can say is they don’t like it and/or give you a no to publishing.
If you’re lucky you will get critical feedback to help you further your writing capabilities. The ego takes a beating, but it really can be a helpful growing exercise.
Tell us about your current release.
My soon to be released novel, as mentioned previously, was inspired by a marathon running of the show Life After Humans on the history channel. One afternoon my daughter and I watched these back to back episodes and the inspiration crept up into my imagination.
First came the setting, a land where very few humans lived – post apocalyptic Earth, the cause – global nuclear destruction.  With hundreds of years passing by, where would the human race, society, ecology, technology, animals stand?  From there, came about my characters.  The heroine was difficult to develop until I came across a picture on the internet by accident.  That picture set about the true birth of Shilo in a land of minimal human life, decrease in procreation, and a regressed society.
Blurb:
In the year 2220, only about 15% of Earth’s populations have survived the Nuclear Disaster of 2020.

After 200 years of genetic diseases and mutations, devastation, and survival, industry and military capacities have been virtually destructed and social systems have fallen. With the collapse of modern society, the population has regressed into eight clans.

·         Alchemy – Largest and strongest of the clans
·         Magnus – A soldier society, dedicated to tactical training
·         Nodus – Power hungry society wishing to rule all
·         Mehdia – The only matriarch society ruled by a woman, a mother.
·         Aeon – Dedicated to archiving history and redeveloping lost technologies
·         Nigredo – Shunned for the physical and psychological effects of nuclear radiation
·         Nomadic – Free spirited and restless wanders of uninhibited territories
·         Orien – Distant clan who arrived only twice from across the sea

Each clan, once a safe haven from the radiation and the lingering effects haunting the once strong steel cities, provided support and assistance to survivors. However, as the years passed, many primal desires and behaviors resurfaced. Desiring power and authority over the others, the clans entered civil wars believing their ideals were the best approach to rebuilding civilization.

After almost one hundred years, in the current year of 2220, the main clans have established themselves and surround their territory with their beliefs. Though their goal changed to halt wars and preserve remaining life. The Alchemy, Magnus, Mehdia, and Aeon Clans work to maintain peace.

Among the ruins of Earth, children are born as the future saviors. Women are worth more than gold in the eyes of most, with their ability to bring life back to the population. However, with this high pedestal come sacrifice, fear, and consequences for those who can birth earths future.

Shilo begins her life, born from her mother’s womanly consequence.   While her fate is unknown, she will struggle, fear, and conquer more than she ever expects. Join her journey from hidden child to revered, coveted woman.

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works?
I actually have a second novel releasing this year.  The release date is not yet final, but it could possibly be happening in August as well.  This novel is a women’s fiction romance novel.
Live In Position is the story of Sophia Ashwood, new live-in nanny for the prestigious Doctor Collin Bishop.
‘Twenty five year old Sophia Ashwood, part time nanny and childcare worker, has finally graduated college and is ready to write the next best seller; however, she needs a full time job flexible enough for her to fulfill her dream.
When Sophia steps into the Bishop home to care for emotionally neglected Victoria, she’s positive Dr. Collin Bishop, aka The Anti-Christ, despises her. The intensity of his glare is unsettling and frustrating.
Sophia’s determined to bide her time, until she can gain publication and freedom from the Bishop home. However, the longer she cares for Victoria, the more wrapped up in their drama filled lives she becomes.’
Coming soon from Elixirist – 48fourteen publishing.
