I never intended to write dark and gritty romantic suspense. My first attempts at writing romance were more along the lines of sweet beach reads where the big black moment usually revolved around someone’s feelings rather than death and destruction.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for a sweet romance, and I even write a few. But with both my husband and I working in the public service sector and seeing the worst humanity had to offer daily, I wanted to show love blooming in places where the sun didn’t shine, and birds didn’t sing happy tunes. I wanted to show the beauty in the chaos.
Protect is the fourth story in a series following four small-town law enforcement agents as they deal with some of humanity’s harder clients. Each officer is battling with their own scars, and each meets a determined woman who makes them want to heal to love her the way she deserves. Protect was probably the most difficult of the four to write since Connor is dealing with PTSD, along with a sense of no longer belonging to the community he once called home while Claire has every reason to never trust a man again. Separate, they are both working toward the same goal in very different ways, but together, they are a powerhouse of force and determination to contend with. I hope you enjoy watching both Connor and Claire find the light they’ve been searching for in the darkness that is their pasts. I love a happy ever after that is hard-won and makes you sigh with relief for the main characters.
